Carol Wincenc Masterclass Competition

All Colorado flutists are invited to audition for one of three spots available on Juilliard Professor Carol Wincenc’s masterclass to take place on March 10, 2012 as part of the Colorado Flute Association Flute Fair at CU Boulder. Each applicant will submit two copies of a CD with at least four but not more than ten minutes of music of the piece they would like to play for Carol. If the piece has a piano accompaniment, it must be recorded with piano. If we are notified by March 1st, an accompanist can be provided for a fee at the Fair.

There will be three categories with a winner in each category:

1)  a full-time college music student from a school other than CU Boulder

2)  someone 19 or older who is not a college music major

3)  a student in grades 8 – 12

All applicants must be members of the Colorado Flute Association. College and high school students must also study with a teacher who is a CFA member. Applications will be available at a later date on the CFA website. There is no application fee, but the chosen winners must pay $50 to play on the masterclass, as well as pay the Flute Fair fee.

Put only the name of the composer of your piece on the CDs. In the effort to be as fair as possible, no applicant’s name is to be seen by the judges.

Postmark deadline for the CD’s and the application form is February 10th. Send them to:

Directions to the CU Music Building and Parking Suggestions

The Flute Fair will take place in the Imig School of Music Building on the CU Boulder Campus. The music building is in the second block off of Broadway, at the intersection of 18th and Euclid. Here is a link to a map which shows the location on campus.

www.colorado.edu/campusmap/map.html?bldg=MUS

The ONLY access to the Music Building is turning onto 18th Street from Broadway. There is a HUGE construction project at the main entrance to campus at Euclid and Broadway, so 18th Street is your only option. The darkened part of 18th that you see on the map is a limited access road for delivery vehicles and buses. It is frequently closed with a gate.

You will see that the Imig Music Building is the 2nd building on the right after you turn onto 18th. You can park in the parking lot immediately on your left that shows as a white space on this map ($3 on a credit card), or go around to the Euclid AutoPark which will have a live person to take your $3 when you leave. There should be plenty of parking available in these two places on Saturday the 10th.

It is possible to park off campus, but parking is difficult to find for the first three of four blocks from campus, allow extra time if you decide to go this route. With the construction project going on, getting across Broadway is very difficult.

For our commercial members, there is a loading/unloading area between the music building and Farrand Field, access via Wardenburg Drive. You must move your vehicle after you have finished unloading. Please check with Sherry Lee to find out when the back doors to the band room will be open.

Enter the music building through the doors that face Euclid Street, we will be just inside the door. The first workshop is at 9 AM and exhibits open at 9 AM.
